Crossover post?

By popular demand (all of one request for each drawing), here we are. One quick doodle, and one quick Photoshop, to tie in with Jason Todd's blog (right here), and the other because I was unhappy with the original and told to do it again. So I did. Still not happy with it, but it was a rush job, as I just couldn't get it how I wanted :/ Ah well, you win some, you loose some, and today my drawings are just dire...

So yeah, without further ado, to coincide with JT's Spider-Man Noir review, here is my, well, drawing of a themed Spider-Man:

Isn't it horrible? :D Oh, and here's my Cassandra Cain picture. Another bleh...

  1. I'm no artist but I think both are pretty good. I love that Spidey's tipping his hat because I could so see him doing that after laying an arachnid powered beatdown then just leaving. I think the lines on his mask look pretty damn good too, as I've seen some people just scribble them out. Your Cassandra is nice too, especially the bat boots, which I'm surprised I even notice because I usually don't look that close haha.

  2. I hated that mask soooo much.
I actually used myself as a reference - I finally found a use for my webcam! Was tempted to put braces on him too, but wasn't sure. Yay or nay?

I don't like the Cassandra at all. It's just horrible. But reading up on her has given me an interesting idea for a character for my story. I mean, Cassandra learned to talk - what about a comic book character who couldn't talk, so had to rely on sign language? I can see this be interesting, and a really good showing of comics letting body language tell half the story. But that'll be a side story, already know who it would deal with, to one of the periphery cast...

  3. Yay :P Spidey with Braces sounds like it would fit haha. And I like the mask.

How the hell did she learn to talk anyway. It's like she just could one day and that bothered me.

  4. I could add those in, but my goodness I'm feeling lazy now :D
I'll try and add em some point, perhaps Tuesday when I've got the day off to do some flat viewing, among other things...
Oh, when I say I hated that mask, I mean hated drawing it - it's a damn nasty thing to draw, blooming nightmare...

See, I think it would be interesting to see a character who can't speak, whose gestures get misinterpreted etc. It leads to some comedy, some seriousness, isn't an in your face lesson about accepting others differences.
See, a good message for kids to learn, but with a good story behind it. And you can't have it for superheroes too, as since she can't talk, it's hard for her to communicate warnings, plans etc.
    Or am I overthinking things?

  5. Ah got ya, I can see why it would be a pain in the ass to draw or something.

Nah, sounds really interesting to be honest. I wish they'd experimented more with Cassandra now that you've got me thinking about it.

  6. Yeah - it's really annoying. I don't get how artists put up with that for monthlies...

Exactly. Though I mostly came up with it being a good idea after having this conversation in my head, for my 'verse.
Sam is a medical student, doing alot of work within a university hospital. Debs was stabbed in the throat while defending herself from a rape/mugging, and lost the ability to speak afterwards. She's gone in for her annual checkup, and Sam's been the one who took her to her doctor today, as he's on reception duty (he doesn't get paid for learning, so took a reception job there to earn).
And it would go something like this.
Sam: You know, I probably shouldn't ask this, but are you doing anything tonight? Maybe go see a film?
*Debs smiles and dips her head a little, before shaking it*
*Sam looks a bit upset from this, not too much, doesn't want to show it*
Sam: Oh, well, never mind then
*Debs puts her hands on Sams knees*
*Sam raises his eyebrows, for half a second not understanding*
Sam: Oh, you're not doing anything
    *Debs nods quite vigorously*
Sam: So, you want to go for a movie
*Debs smiles a tad and nods a little*
Sam: Great, well, how does seven sound
    *Debs smiles and nods again*

Wow, long winded. But that's mini-script extracts for that...

  7. You know, I'd never given it much thought, but Spidey must be a nightmare for any artist to draw... I wonder who would be considered the most difficult comic character to draw? As the resident artist, I'm looking at you for an answer Nagash!

Wow, Sam is pretty damn nervy, no?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Is Nervy a word X? Well it must be because spellcheck didn't call me out on it. Anyway, sounds very interesting Nagash, every time I stop being over interested in ya work you pull me back in.

  9. While I have been known to just make up my own words every now and then, nervy is a real word, although it sure does look strange...

  10. Nagash I know I'm always late on replying lol but nice job on the spider man. I'm jealous. lol. really nice job.

And X, surprisingly spider man isn't that difficult to draw. I'll try and nab a shot of a spider man I sketched for JT next time i go over.. He has is plastered on his wall. lol.

  11. Oh yeah, real nightmare. Er, other characters, hmm... Someone like Aquaman/Mera if you go for the scale costume, er, anyone with any form of texture on their costume...

Oh, it's all part of character. He's uber confident with everything, until it comes to chatting people up/meeting new people. He's an American student who transferred over here, FYI...

Yeah, I'm pretty good at roping you back in, eh? :P

  12. Hmm, yeah I can see Aquaman's scales being terribly annoying to do.

Ah, so he's American. That would explain why he was so nervy! :P

  13. Anything like that would be annoying, as are frills and non-repeated patterns (Most Excellent Super Bat anyone?). But at least frills and scales are on cool characters (Nico and Aquaman both rock, and Mera and Aquagirl are pretty cool).

Well at least you're not insulted by it, that's all. He's from Texas, having actually lived on a ranch for his younger years before moving to the city because he's had enough of that. Then flew over to England because he wants to train to be a doctor, but doesn't see why people should have to pay for health care. Note, this would be around 2005 sortof time, as an FYI.

  14. Mmm, I guess Nico would be another tough one, although i'd think that the artist would have a bit more leeway since she doesn't really have an official costume or anything. Hell, a really lazy artist could just put her in something way less frilly and get away with it I'd guess.

Oh man, so he's also from Texas?! Gah! New Yorkers don't care for Texans and I'm SURE the feeling is more then mutual! Although he is Texan, I totally agree with the whole why should people have to pay for healthcare thing. Thankfully that should be a thing of the past soon.

  15. Well, some artists have been lazy when drawing her, but I think her wearing the gothloli esque stuff is good, you don't see that in comics, or popular culture in general, at all. Or is that just because it holds some appeal ta me? ;)

Really? Huh, didn't know that. Learn something every day. Exactly, and because it's set in the past, I can see this health care stuff goes, and maybe have him move back over to America at some point to see how the system compares.

  16. Well, I've always liked Nico, she's a unique character and prob(depending on my mood)my favorite Runaway... Man I wish Marvel would bring that series back already!

Oh yeah, there's a whole North/South divide thing in the US. The north tends to be more left leaning and liberal, while the south is more to the right and conservative. Obviously that's not the case universally, but I'd say that's mostly true. With the way the politicians here are trying to drag their feet with healthcare still, Sam might be in England a little longer!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well alot of the Runaways are good. I don't understand why Xavin was written out, was it move away from Klara having to deal with a black gay woman, or because he/she was too powerful?

Well, obviously I'll take all this into consideration, as it is hard to make characters based on other cultures. Course I want to actually get it right and not just fluff it like some writers do...
